Good
• Value for money
• Sharp handling
• Great sound system
• Classy and comfortable cabin
Price and Equipment
Strictly speaking the XR8 is not that well equipped—climate control air, cruise control, trip computer, multi-function steering wheel, CD stereo as well as a seventeen inch alloys—but even though it lacks some more pieces of equipment it still maintains its competitive edge with other two-seat $40,000 vehicles sports car.
The price of Ford Falcon begins at $27,795 and you can still further increase your expenses by adding Bluetooth and ipod connectivity, bigger wheels, premium sound system and several more accessories and luxuries.
Under the Hood
The 5.4 Liter Boss V8 engine of XR8 is not all bad—giving out 290kW of power compared to old models only giving out 260kW.
Press the acceleration pad and you will notice a steady and normal pace of acceleration. Even if it does not have the searing shove of XR6, its effortless flexibility, pure throttle quick response and good sound system are great consolations.
XR8 is not really thrifty either. It uses an average of 13.3L/110km on test, and you will surely spend a lot more than this around town.
There is no issue with the precise six-speed manual shift which in fairness has a good stout and a stylish metallic feel.
How it Drives
With the sharp, sensuous steering, quick responses, and predictable rear-drive balance, XR8 is highly agile, obedient, and highly interesting.
There were some funny noise which were acceptable since it is a sporting bent but over really sharp bumps, the impact will surely shake the doors until it breaks.
Despite its faults, driving the XR8 to far destinations can be a relaxing experience.
Comfort and Practicality
Ford has done some monumental work on the interior ergonomics and functionality of the XR8. The stereo is now better with a very nice graphic package displayed on a seven-inch color screen. In addition to that, a six disc MP3 compatible CD changer is partnered with an eight speaker 150W amplifier and subwoofer package which gives a solid wave of sound through out the car.
Safety
The Ford Falcon XR8 is the first Australian built car to receive a five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). According to reports, it scored 34.6 out of 37 points, and was awarded five stars for occupant safety. Moreover, it is also said that Ford has over 5,000 simulated crash tests and 426 full vehicle-representative physical crash tests during development period.
